I think it's a give-a-way but maybe some haven't seen his work.

Gee, who would have guessed that Paul would use a Fox guitar for this kind of thread...?

It looks like Fox peghead but looks like Sir William's (Cumpiano) wedge design

Yes, you're right Mark but I thought maybe some of the newer guys haven't seen this work.
For those of you that don't know, the guitar isn't tipped in the picture, it's wedge shaped. Now this isn't a brand new concept, I think Linda Manzer has been doing it for a long time, but the geometry involved in doing it is extremely complex. One of the things that strikes me as a "how does he do that" is the lining of the guitar. Charles' linings are not the slightest bit flexible in the Z axis. But they would have to be manipulated in this direction to sit flat against the sides. Binding as well. YUCK that would suck to bind this guitar.

Its quite possible that he uses a shaped piece of kerfing to do this one Paul - a friend of mine actually uses a contoured side template to precut his kerfing strips so that they will be an even 3/4 all around even after being bowled (he also bedns them in his Fox - how appropriate here ). Too much effort IMO, but I would think necessary on this baby. The binding might not be so bad, but then I havent tried a wedge yet but can see the problems arising once you are knee deep into it !!!

I played that guitar while I was in Charles' class. Sounds as great as it looks. It is not only wedge shaped, it is also a double top with very little bracing on the top. Some of the things Charles does juse never cease to amaze me.

Niiice...doing wedged guitars is relatively trivial with a dished workboard. That's a step beyond, though, messing with the geometry of the top as well as the back (which is the standard 'wedge' a la Manzer and Cumpiano).

We've all learned lots from Charles whether we know it or not. Typical of Charles, another beautiful guitar!Jim_W38853.787025463

What strikes me most about that guitar is the red accents on the binding. Sure does make it a little racy!
